29th November, 2013

On 5 December the winners of the Retro Expo Awards 2013 will be announced by the ‘queen of green’ TV presenter and campaigner, Penney Poyzer, who won the DECC Retrofit Pioneer Award last year. 42 companies have been shortlisted for a Retro Expo Award celebrating Britain's most inspiring retrofit pioneer and innovative retrofit products and services.

The Retro Expo Awards Ceremony, sponsored by the Better Retrofit Partnership, will be taking place at the Business Design Centre on the evening of 5th December following the Retrofit Summit. Penney and her husband Gil Schalom, an architect specialising in ultra low energy design, won the DECC Retrofit Pioneer Award in 2012 for their extensive work in promoting retrofits since the late 1990s. Ever since they refurbished their multi award winning Victorian home back in 1998, Penney has championed low carbon retrofits in the media, she also helped kick start the SuperHomes network, authored a book ‘No Waste Like Home’ and is leading the way in ‘restorative’ whole plot retrofit.

“As a previous winner of the coveted DECC Retrofit Pioneer award, this event is very close to my heart. I am delighted to be hosting the awards this year and look forward immensely to revealing the winners. Retrofitting the UK is essential if we are to achieve carbon targets and slow the progress of climate change. A retrofitted building is great for people and planet – and reduces running costs for the whole lifetime of the building. I also look forward to seeing exciting products at Retro Expo, which is the premier event of its kind in the UK.”

Tickets for this fantastic evening of celebration cost £25 plus VAT per person and can be purchased from: www.retroexpoawards.co.uk/book.
